Lawless (2012)

Director: John Hillcoat
Starring: Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf,  Jessica Chastain and Guy Pearce

USA Release Date: 29 August 2012
Running Time: 116 Min.

MPAA Rating: R
My Rating: 7/10

Synopsis:
 (Provided by IMDb.com)
Set in Depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, a bootlegging gang is threatened by a new deputy and other authorities who want a cut of their profits.

My Review: (Spoilers ahead: You have been warned!)

Based on a novel by Matt Bondurant, Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy are Jack and Forrest Bondurant, two brothers who continue to run moonshine in the backwoods of Virginia, during the Prohibition-era, after losing their parents to a plagued disease. It's a classic story of survival of the fittest when a new deputy insist on making a cut of their profits, eliminating anyone who rebels.

It seems unbelievable at times, but overall this movie was a decent reenactment of "the good 'ol days" when making and selling whiskey was illegal. For example, Forrest was one that seemed to have nine lives; as he missed a near death with the same disease that took his parents, survived having his neck slit regardless of the loss of a body's amount of blood, being shot twice in a gun fight, and falling through the ice.

Say what you want about Shia LaBeouf, but I find him more serious in roles like this compared to action blockbusters like Transformers. Jack Bondurant was the youngest of three brothers, who wanted to get out of the driver's seat and actually sell the product he's been driving around. With all their competition being knocked off by the new deputy, there was a high demand in the brothers' white lightning, unfortunately not wanting to share their profits feuds a war with the law.

Overall, this movie was great and I can recommend it as a rent but probably not much more than that.

The Campaign (2012)

Director: Jay Roach
Starring: Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis

USA Release Date: 10 August 2012
Running Time: 85 Minutes

MPAA Rating: R
My Rating: 8/10

Synopsis:
To gain influence over a North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to beat long time congressman Cam Brady by funding a rival candidate, Marty Huggins who has no former political experience. It's nothing but a roller coaster ride the whole way to the state senator's office.

My Review:
This is political spoof, and I wouldn't want either one of these clowns running for office. As a fan of Jay Roach's work such as Meet the Parents and the Austin Powers movies, I found this movie to be his first raunchy, 'adult' comedy. I actually found this enjoyable, as it was good for a few laughs. But don't consider comparing it to classic comedies like The Hangover because it's a whole different view.

Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell are exactly what you'd expect. Ferrell brought his extremely immature comical behavior over from Step Brothers, which has given him a trademark of sorts. Galifianakis brought his creepy behavior that you can't help but to laugh at.

Overall, this is more than worth a Redbox buck-fifty rental or if you're not keen to renting, I imagine it'll be in the $5 bargain bins by the end of the year. Definitely check it out for yourself, especially if your a fan of Ferrell or Galifianakis.

Snow White and the Huntsman (2012)

Directed by: Rupert Sanders
Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron

USA Release Date: 01 June 2012
Running Time: 127 Minutes

MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating: 7/10

Warning: Spoilers Ahead! You have been warned.

Kristen Stewart stars Snow White, a royal princess who loses her mother at a young age. When her father realizes she needs a mother, he's tricked into marrying Raveena (Charlize Theron) who poisons him and rids the kingdom of his ruling. Imprisoned Snow White decides to escape just as the Magic Mirror declares her the source of the Evil Queen's immortality. The queen sends her men, led by a local huntsman to bring Snow White back. Meanwhile, Snow White's childhood friend, William (Sam Claflin) learns she is alive and sets off to save her. Upon her capture, the huntsman winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

Say what you want about the cast, this movie was pulled off pretty well. I skipped this when it hit the theaters, but it was more than worth my $1.50 Redbox rental, and would honestly say it's worth a $5 purchase later on.

The Hunger Games (2012)

Directed by: Gary Ross
Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth

USA Release Date: 23 March 2012
Running Time: 142 Minutes

MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating: 8.5/10

As always, Spoilers ahead! If you haven't seen the movie yet, don't read this review. You have been warned.

Set in the future, where a capitol drafts a boy and a girl to represent their individual districts in a game of survival of the fittest. There are a total of 12 districts altogether, meaning there are 24 chosen participants in this publicly televised event, who are forced to eliminate their competitors. The last boy or girl standing wins. When sixteen year old Katniss' (Jennifer Lawrence) younger sister Primrose (Willow Shields) gets chosen as district 12's female representative, Katniss stands up to volunteer to go in her place. It is obvious both participants are going up against much stronger, experienced participants - some of whom have trained for this event their entire lives.

Having never read a page of the book, and knowing nothing about this movie, I still wanted to go and see what all the Internet hype was about. Originally I had thought this was just another over-dramatic book adaptation flick, similar to one vampire saga I won't mention. Anyways, this movie had me sitting on the edge of my seat the entire second half, comfortably the first half. Movies are meant to work up to the end, and I believe The Hunger Games did just that. Would I recommend this to a friend? Yes, even if you're like me and haven't read a single page of the book it's based on. The action sequences are unbelievably great for the average movie goer, and for anyone into drama this movie will pull you in for sure. I had thought the ending could have been cut in half, but after thinking about it I liked how it had a Shakespearean (Romeo & Juliet) twist to it (two winners [boy and girl from a single district] or none).

The Avengers (2012)

Director: Joss Whedon
Starring: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson

Running Time: 143 Minutes (2 Hours, 23 Minutes)
USA Release Date: May 4, 2012

MPAA Rating: PG-13
My Rating: 9/10

Spoilers ahead!

Synopsis:
Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.

My Thoughts:
This is a movie I've been meaning to give my thoughts on since seeing it when it premiered in theaters back in May. I usually don't watch many superheroes outside of Batman, so I went into this knowing very little but it truly exceeded my expectations. Both Iron Man movies, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger were titles I saw once, but brushed them off as movies worth seeing once but never again. The Avengers, on the other hand, is a title that includes action and even comical moments from all the Marvel characters (Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye) so you just know how great it's going to be even without seeing it, though looking at the box office gross, I'm sure not many people haven't. It's the only title I was willing to pay full price (well, actually far from the MSRP) for when it was released to Blu-ray. As someone who rarely pays more than $5 for a single title, this should be enough to tell how much I enjoyed and recommend it. If that's not enough, perhaps this is enough evidence: IMDb User Rating (as of 10/1): 8.5/10 from 366,234 users

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

Director: Milos Forman
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Louise Fletcher, Danny DeVito, Christopher Lloyd

Running Time: 133 Minutes
USA Release Date: 21 Nov 1975

MPAA Rating: R
My Rating: 10/10

As always, this review may contain spoilers.

R.P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) is a criminal, who acts insane to get out of labor duties, then he gets sent to a mental institution. Once here, McMurphy both endures and stands witness to the abuse and degradation of the oppressive Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher). He grows a bond for the other patients, and forms a group to rebel against her.

This movie shows how poorly-constructed society's approach to the mentally unstable is and how the character of R.P. McMurphy is portrayed as one fighting for freedom of choice and basic human rights. In addition to Nicholson's great acting, this movie introduces yet another greatly talented actor (his first premiere actually), Danny DeVito as one of the patients.

From a movie from the 70s, I was very impressed with the way this film was directed, the camera work, and the sound was managed. The most humorous scene, to me, was the fishing trip on the ocean. The idea  that the crazies would rather watch McMurphy and his girlfriend rather than fish cracks me up each time I watch this. On the other hand, the most remembered scene would have to be the end when McMurphy returns from electroshock treatments (half vegetable, mind you) and Chief Bromden suffocates him with a pillow as to not end up like his father, who the hospital staff made into a vegetable long before he died. Chief then does the inevitable and throws the fountain into the window, breaking the fence and escapes!

Bottom line, I consider this movie a classic and I believe you should too. Forget trying to rent this movie, buy it if you haven't already.

The Watch (2012)

Director:   Akiva Schaffer
Starring:   Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill

USA Release Date:   27-July 2012
Running Time:   105 min

MPAA Rating:   R
My Rating:   7/10

When a night security guard at the local Costco gets killed, Evan (Ben Stiller), the manager of the store decides to start up a neighborhood watch club to find the killer and protect others. Three other suburban residents decide to join the neighborhood watch as an excuse to escape their regular lives one night a week. But when they accidentally find out their town is being overrun by aliens in human skin, they have no choice but to save their neighborhood.

I went into this movie without knowing too much about it, as a matter of fact the only thing I knew was the title and the starring actors. I was honestly surprised when I found out this movie was about aliens. A comedy science fiction flick, at best. Overall, it was very mediocre. It's worth a rent, or perhaps no more  than $5 if you choose to buy it.

Pure Luck (1991)

Director: Nadia Tass
Starring: Martin Short, Danny Glover, Sheila Kelley

Release Date: 09 August 2012 (USA)
Running Time: 96 Min.

My Rating: 10/10

Watch Trailer

When a wealthy businessman's accident-prone daughter, Valerie (Sheila Kelley) goes missing on a trip to Mexico, private detective Raymond Campanella (Danny Glover) is hired to find her. After many failed efforts to find her, a psychologist decides to use a new tactic, a accountant for the company, Eugene Proctor (Martin Short), who is similarly accident-prone to relive the course of events Valerie. Perhaps he can use his super bad luck to find her...

With a comedic duo such as Martin Short and Danny Glover, how can you go wrong with this? It's a 90's dream team, with nonstop laughter for the full ninety some minutes, some of the accidents were unbelievably done but while watching the movie you begin to realize how accident-prone they really are. When trouble comes for Proctor, Raymond also pays for it, which tests his patience. If you haven't seen this movie yet, it has recently become available on DVD in a comedy 4-movie marathon pack and can be found in most Walmart $5 bins across the nation, for 3 mediocre titles and one gem it's a no-brainer that it's worth the buy.

The Dark Knight (2008)

Director: Christopher Nolan
Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger

Released: 18 July 2008 (USA)
Running Time: 152 Min.

Rated: PG-13
My Rating: 9/10

The second movie to Nolan's franchise was better than the first, but far from Tim Burton's version of Batman. Heath Ledger's last film debut, he did a remarkable job as Joker, trying to change the morals of the people of  Gotham. We all know Batman was created to rid the evil in Gotham, well when his big enemy is the clownishly homicidal Joker who won't stop at anything to transform the good to evil.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past couple years, you must know they've made a sequel called "The Dark Knight Rises" which was released in theaters yesterday (7-20-12) which I haven't seen yet. However you can tell from what I've mentioned about this movie, I'm looking forward to finally seeing The Dark Knight Rises! Are you? (or have you seen it already? No spoilers please)

A Thousand Words (2012)

Spoilers ahead! You've been warned.

Director:  Brian Robbins

Starring: Eddie Murphy, Cliff Curtis and Kerry Washington

Runtime: 91 Minutes

MPAA Rating: PG-13

My Rating: 7/10

Synopsis from IMDb:

After stretching the truth on a deal with a spiritual guru, literary agent Jack McCall finds a Bodhi tree on his property. Its appearance holds a valuable lesson on the consequences of every word we speak.
Review:
This wasn't one of Eddie Murphy's typical comedies, but don't get me wrong it was entertaining for the full hour and a half. Jack (Eddie Murphy) plays a bad game of charades throughout the movie, losing his job and wife in the process. He let's his book agent job get in the way of his family, making him just like his father who left him and his mother when he was a baby. Come to find out the tree is really symbolism of his father, once he finds room in his heart to forgive his father, the tree will stop dying hence letting Jack live longer. You're probably thinking, ah this is very typical for Hollywood, definitely not worthy of a true theatrical release. Bottom line, it's worth a cheap rent or a very cheap buy but not a full purchase.

The Innkeepers (2011)

Director: Ti West

Starring: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy and Kelly McGillis

MPAA Rating: R (for some bloody images and language)

My Rating: 6/10

Synopsis from IMDb: On the last weekend the Yankee Pedlar Inn is open, two employees are determined to reveal the hotel's haunted past begin to experience disturbing events.

Review:
This was the first Ti West film I've ever seen, and while impressed with the ending I felt the movie to be extremely slow. The hotel was haunted, everyone knew it but no one had the proof, until Claire (Sara Paxton) decided she wanted to find it before the place closed for good.

I recommend this one but you have to have patience, the initial hour is very slow but once you hit the climax, it's worth it to finish it off.

Die Hard 2 (1990)

Spoilers Ahead! You have been warned.

Director: Renny Harlin
Starring: Bruce Willis, William Sadler, John Amos, Tom Bower, William Atherton, Reginald VelJohnson and Bonnie Bedelia

MPAA Rating: R
My Rating:  8.5/10

USA Release Date: July 4, 1990
Running Time: 2 hours 4 minutes (124 Minutes)

It's Christmas again, and once again John McClane (Bruce Willis) is in the wrong place at the wrong time - located at an airport in Washington D.C., waiting on his wife Holly to arrive from L.A. Her plane is delayed when a group of international terrorists, led by COL. Stuart, decide to hijack the airport electronic devices to rescue a drug lord from justice. With no landing lights all aircraft are required to stay in the air, which means John has approximately 90 minutes to defeat the terrorists before the planes run out of fuel.

There's nothing like a little Die Hard action to put you on the edge of your seat. Yippie-Ki-Ay, Motherfucker!

Die Hard (1988)

Spoilers Ahead! You have been warned.

Director: John McTiernan
Starring: Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman and Bonnie Bedelia

MPAA Rating:  R
My Rating: 9/10

USA Release Date: July 18, 1988
Running Time: 131 Minutes

It's Christmas and when New York City Officer John McClane lands at a Los Angeles airport the only thing on his mind is spending the holiday with his family. When he arrives at his wife's office, everything appears to be normal-well as normal as a crazy office party could be-and after having a small disagreement with her husband, Holly is asked to make a big speech to her fellow employees, leaving John behind.

Unfortunately, it's not going to be a merry Christmas just yet as a group of terrorists led by Hans Gruber overtakes the Nakatomi Plaza building, holding everyone hostage in the meantime. With no way in or out and 12 terrorists with itchy trigger fingers, John is forced to stop them all with only one outsider (Reginald VelJohnson) believing in him.

Thirty floors up and a ton of action, this movie is definitely the start of something good. Watch it, I guarantee you'll enjoy it!

Bad Santa (2003)

SPOILERS AHEAD! You have been warned.

Director: Terry Zwigoff
Stars: Billy Bob Thornton, Bernie Mac and Lauren Graham

MPAA Rating: Rated R for pervasive language, strong sexual content and some violence.
My Rating: 7/10

USA Release Date: Nov. 26, 2003
Running Time: 91 min | 88 min (Director's cut) | 98 min (unrated version)

Who would ever suspect a Santa Claus to rob a department store? This one does, with his 3-foot tall "elf" sidekick. This isn't an ordinary Santa Claus, with his massive drinking and swearing. One Christmas in Arizona proves to be problematic for them though, when Santa (Billy Bob Thornton) befriends a troubled kid and the security manager foil their plans. Marcus (Tony Cox) and his mail-order wife are too greedy for their own good, when they kill off the department store security manager (Bernie Mac) so they don't have to share half of their profits. That takes care of their problems, or so Marcus would think, unfortunately his "partner" is getting soft as he learns the true meaning of Christmas from the troubled fat kid he's been living with. The only option on Christmas eve is to pull off their last heist together, and kill "Santa" which backfires when the department store gets raided by the police.

Overall, this is a really good movie to watch around the holidays or whenever since it's just another comedy/robbery heist story. I'm sure I everyone has probably seen this before, but if you haven't go find it and check it out for yourself.

In the end, Squirrel gets transferred to a school where the students have behavioral problems. Halsey ends up realizing she doesn't need the breast implants and takes a guidance counselor job at the school while dating the gym teacher.

The four crazies find that Dr. Weitzman will be murdered as a witness and no one believes four mental patients. They now have to diverge a plan to rescue Dr Weitzman from the hospital with the police and killers chasing them.

Overall, this is one movie I would actually watch more than once and laugh more than the last time. It's got a perfect cast list and a better-than-most plot line. Would I recommend it? Sure, why not!

Fast Five (2011)

Starring: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson
Release Date: 29 April 2011 (USA)
Runtime: 130 min.

The Hangover Part II (2011)

Director: Todd Phillips
Cast: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms
MPAA:  R for pervasive language, strong sexual content including graphic nudity, drug use and brief violent images.
My Rating:  2/5

For those of you living under a rock, a second Hangover movie hit the box office in late May. This time, Stu's getting married and the entire wolf pack: Phil, Stu, Doug, Alan, and Stu's future brother-in-law Teddy travel to Thailand. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu insists they just have a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, something goes horribly wrong the night before the wedding in Bangkok.

What starts out as a nice quiet evening on the beach, drinking beers and roasting marshmallows ends with Phil, Stu, and Alan waking up in some rundown apartment in the city of Bangkok. Doug is back at the resort, but Teddy is missing, there's a monkey with a severed finger, Alan's head is shaved, Stu has a tattoo on his face, and they can't remember any of it. The wolf-pack retrace their steps through strip clubs, tattoo parlors and cocaine-dealing monkeys on the streets of Bangkok as they try and find Teddy before the wedding.

Personally, I thought the first Hangover movie was an instant classic, but this one tanked. Sure it had a couple humorous scenes, but definitely not as funny as the original!

Adventureland (2009)

Director:  Greg Mottola
Starring:  Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Kelsey Ford, Jack Gilpin, Ryan Reynolds
MPAA:  Rated R for language, drug use and sexual references.

In the summer of 1987, James Brennan (Jesse Eisenberg) just graduated from Oberlin College. He is looking forward to touring Europe with his friend and going to Columbia University the following year, when his parents (Wendie Malick and Jack Gilpin) break the news that they won't be able to help him financially.

Of course, this means James will have to cancel his plans and find a summer job. Come to find out, he doesn't qualify for anything but a job at a local amusement park, Adventureland. He thinks he's applying to operate the rides, when the manager, Bobby (Bill Hader), immediately assigns him to the games area. His first day is spent meeting some of his co-workers: Joel (Martin Starr), Bobby's wife Paulette (Kristen Wiig), Sue O'Malley (Paige Howard), Mark (Mark Miller), Lisa P. (Margarita Levieva), and the park's repairs technician Mike Connell (Ryan Reynolds), who is a part-time musician and claims to have once jammed with Lou Reed.

He also meets Emily "Em" Lewin (Kristen Stewart), fellow games area co-worker, when she rescues him from almost being knifed by a dishonest customer. When they go for a drink at a local bar, he freely admits he's a virgin and starts talking about his ex-girlfriends from school, a very big mistake according to Connell. When James tells Connell, that he thinks he loves Em, the first thing Connell does is tells her. She does what she thinks is right, by telling James she just wants to take things slow - one step at a time.

The next day, Lisa P. asks James out. After James returns home after the date, he finds out Em tried calling him, so to make it up to her, he gives her some of his marijuana to bake some 'pot cookies'. After a pot-induced game-playing streak, Joel is attacked by an angry customer who learns the games are rigged. When Em steps in, the customer pushes her and James defends her by punching him.

Later on, Joel sees James and Em walking together and quits. When James confronts Joel, trying to encourage him to go back to work, he gets angry because James went out with Lisa P. when he clearly has Em.  That night, Em goes to Connell's to end their affair when James finds out and confronts her about it. James tells Lisa P. about the affair between Em and Connell and she tells one of her friends, and now everybody in the park knows about it. This causes Em to quit, and go back to school (NYU).

James realizes he and Em are perfect for each other, and wants her back at whatever cost, so he decides to go to New York even though he has no money for school. Waiting for her, outside her apartment in the rain, surprises Em when she arrives. Once there, James gets out of his wet clothes, and finds she still has an Adventureland shirt.

I have to admit, this was one of those movies where it was a no-brainer on how it was going to end, but was very good in my opinion and I have seen LOTS of movies.

His friends Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) decide to give him a bachelor party in crazy Las Vegas that he could not forget. Unfortunately the morning after their arrival, they awaken in their hotel suite with the worst hangover ever. No one remembers what happened in the past twelve hours. While the suite is destroyed, they find out they have replaced the groom for a tiger and a baby.

As Phil, Stu and Alan try to find Doug using only what little pieces of information they have at hand, they discover what they did the previous night. However, they are running out of time to find Doug before the wedding, and having to explain to Tracy (Sasha Barrese) why they are not back in Los Angeles.

First they find out Stu got hitched, to a sexy stripper/escort, Jade (Heather Graham) with child. Then they discover Phil was in the hospital, so they visit the doctor he saw for more information on what happened - this is when they find out they were drugged with roofies. Their misadventures with a Chinese guy, Mr. Chow (Ken Jeong), has to be the funniest yet dangerous situations in the entire movie. They think all they need is $80,000 and it will be all over, but to their luck, Chow has the wrong ‘Doug’.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants a great laugh!

Fast & Furious is the fourth film in The Fast and the Furious series. The plot connects with the original film of the series from which Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, and Jordana Brewster return as the starring cast.

After a successful run of hijacking fuel tankers in the Dominican Republic, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) has become an international criminal. Dom is afraid of what will happen to his girlfriend, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) if the authorities ever catch him and link her to him, so he runs to Mexico and leaves her with Mia (his sister, Jordana Brewster).

Later, Letty is found to have been shot dead in her wrecked car. Dom returns to the scene of her murder just outside of L.A. There, he discovers traces of nitromethane, which allows him to lead a personal investigation up to a certain David Park, who had purchased the nitromethane for the driver who killed Letty. Park is coerced into helping Dom get a spot in a street race, arranged by Ramon Campos, where he will supposedly find Letty’s killer.

Meanwhile, Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker), now an FBI agent, is assigned to track down a notorious drug lord named Arturo Braga. Brian’s investigation also leads him to David Park. He arrives at Park’s apartment while Dom is still interrogating him (by holding him by his ankles outside a window). At the FBI office, Park also tells Brian that the aforementioned street race grants the winner a spot on the team that traffics heroin across the United States-Mexico border for Braga. He visits Dom’s sister, Mia (Jordana Brewster), warning her to stay away from Dom, as he will eventually get caught; Mia criticizes him for his betrayal of them five years earlier and asks why he let Dominic go. Brian replies that he doesn’t know, and she leaves.

With both of them having the information of the race, Dom repaints and modifies his Chevrolet Chevelle SS while Brian eventually picks a Nissan Skyline GTR from the LAPD impound lot and modifies it. Dom and Brian participate in the race. Having lost the race, Brian uses his position at the FBI to wrongfully arrest Dwight Mueller (Greg Cipes), another of Braga’s drivers, in order to usurp Mueller’s spot on the team. Ramon Campos, Braga’s right hand man, invites the drivers to a party, where Dom ends up in a confrontation with a driver called Fenix, and Brian looks for signs of Braga.

The next day, the team’s drivers and their cars are smuggled into Mexico to receive the heroin which they are to import across the border at night. They are to meet with Fenix en route and pass through a path of tunnels to evade the surveillance systems used to monitor the borders. Gisele, Braga’s liason, gives Dom a subtle warning in the form of the Spanish phrase “vaya con Dios” After the run, Dom realizes that the drivers are routinely shot and killed after each import job, to avoid having to pay them. Letty, having been in the same situation, was the only driver to get away when they shot her team. The ensuing pursuit led to her car crash and getting shot. Now, just before shooting Brian and Dom, Fenix admits with no remorse that he killed Letty. Suddenly, the cars behind them explode due to sabotage by Dom, who had anticipated the betrayal. Brian uses this diversion to hijack one of the Hummers carrying the heroin, and escape the gunfire with Dom.

Back in marshall, they hide the Hummer in the LAPD impound lot, and Brian claims that Dom now owes him a “10-second car”, echoing Dom’s line from the first movie. Dom smashes the window of an impounded Subaru Impreza WRX STI which he “gives” to Brian. They go to Brian’s place, where Brian calls up Mia to come over and patch up Dom from a gunshot wound he sustained in the earlier fire fight. After dinner, Dom rummages through some of Brian’s evidence and learns that Brian had been contacted by Letty, who had agreed to infiltrate Braga’s organization to collect information in exchange for clemency for Dom, so that he could return home to her in LA. This is how she had ended up being one of the drivers for the Braga import job which led to her death. Mia forgives Brian for his past betrayal five years earlier.

The next day, he tells his superiors about his plan to lure Braga into a trap, offering him his heroin back in exchange for $6 million, which Braga is to deliver himself. However, Brian requests that the FBI pardon Dom before proceeding with the plan. Campos agrees to Brian’s deal, not knowing that the FBI is poised to arrest Braga at the exchange site. However, the FBI only succeeds in apprehending Braga’s decoy, realizing too late that Campos is the real Rowe Braga. Because of this error, Braga is able to evade capture and flees to Mexico, out of the FBI’s jurisdiction.

Brian and Dom head after Braga on their own, and find him in a cathedral in Mexico praying for salvation. They kidnap him, but are soon chased by Braga’s henchmen, to the underground tunnels where Dom’s Dodge Charger crashes. Once on the U.S. side of the border, an injured Brian is about to be shot by Fenix when Dom suddenly arrives, driving a henchman’s car straight into Fenix, killing him. Braga is finally apprehended by the FBI, and despite the promised clemency clause, so is Dom.

Brian appeals to the courts, but Dom is sentenced to “25 years to life without the possibility of early parole.” The movie concludes with Dom being transported in a prison bus on a desert highway to the Lompoc Penitentiary, when Brian, driving a new Dodge Charger R/T, with Mia, Tego, and Rico in two other stealthy black cars (Honda NSX and Pontiac Trans Am), arrive for an interception.

Sex Drive (2008)

Director: Sean Anders
Cast: Josh Zuckerman, Amanda Crew, Clark Duke, Seth Green, and James Marsden

Eighteen year old Ian Lafferty (Josh Zuckerman) sets out on a cross country drive with his best friends Lance (Clark Duke) and Felicia (Amanda Crew) in order to lose his virginity to a sexy, hot babe he met on the Internet. But the journey, filled with hilarious misadventures which can be expected, teaches all three more than they expected about life and love.

Ian can't seem to catch a break, while taunted by his older brother Rex (James Marsden), shown up in the romance department by his 14 year old brother and humiliated by his job at a donut shop at the mall. Being 18 years old, and still a virgin complicates everything for him, while it pushes him to look for romance on the Internet, he hooks up with Ms. Tasty, who is a sexy hot blonde who can't wait to get intimate. Of course, there's a catch: Ian has to drive 500 miles from Chicago, IL to Knoxville, TN. Nagged by his buddy Lance, Ian risks everything and "borrows" The Judge, Rex's prized vintage Pontiac GTO. Along the way, he runs into car trouble, some jail time, a buggy tow with an Amish farmer (Seth Green), a evening at an Amish 'party' and an afternoon at a roadside carnival to complicate Ian's journey. As they continue on their journey, there are a few consequences that Ian has to realize, for instance: Will Rex find Ian before he reaches Knoxville? Will a anger-crazed husband get revenge on Lance just as he seems to have found true love? Will Ms. Tasty live up to her Internet profile? Will Ian realize what he really wants? And most importantly, will Ian, Felicia and Lance survive the bumpy road to adulthood with all its unexpected twists and turns? This hilarious movie will keep you laughing throughout the movie, but I can't figure out whether or not it's worth buying just yet - definitely worth a rent.
